Julia Fletcher Selway
I’m an interdisciplinary visual artist trained to study complex systems. My work makes complexity approachable by showing how ideas take shape through process.
Featured Series
This site is a record of my creative work over time. I work across materials to make creativity more approachable, using experimentation as a way to think. I finish some pieces while others are studies, experiments, or detours. Seen together, they allow patterns to emerge across mediums and years.
The work is organized into ongoing series that reflect sustained inquiry rather than single outcomes. Each series examines what changes when the same ideas move between fiber, drawing, and digital tools. Instead of aiming for resolution, the work pays attention to variation, constraint, and the decisions that shape an outcome as materials shift.
I share this space as an invitation to create without permission.

The digital art

Each series page includes process notes, material decisions, and related works.
Creativity isn’t a credentialed activity. It’s a human one.
Selected Works
A selection of work using different materials. Each work reflects ideas developed through handwork, digital tools, and AI collaboration. Together, these pieces trace how ideas change through repetition, revision, and material choice, offering insight into an evolving practice that is shaped by a need to create.

About the Artist

I’m an interdisciplinary visual artist working across appliqué, fiber, and experimental digital tools. My practice blends handwork and technology to explore how complex ideas take form—through material, memory, and narrative. I’m interested in character as something built over time, shaped by process, tools, and constraint.
Each piece evolves through starts, iteration, and visible decision-making, allowing the process to remain present in the final form. I like how tools influence expression, and how meaning emerges when materials—both analog and digital—are handled with intention.
